Jayaraj Mithra was born to parents Balasubramanyan and Vilasini in Pazhayannur, one of Kerala’s most picturesque villages. His parents didn’t tell him what to do or what not to do. He, therefore, lived according to his feelings and acted as he pleased. The author received a bounty of tales from Pazhayannur. This picturesque village was never short of themes because of its rivers, ponds, paddy fields, slopes, valleys, kavu (a dense grove where serpent deity is worshipped), hills, and forests. Due to the proximity of the bordering villages of Palakkad and Thrissur, Jayaraj Mithra benefited greatly from both cultures. Fairy tales were given life as there was an abundance of festivals like Pooram, Vela, Aarat, Perunal, and Nercha (held at temples, churches, and mosques). His inquisitive interest is reflected in Jayaraj Mitra’s works of children’s literature, which are so full of knowledge and curiosities that readers find it difficult to put them down. His stories are steeped in tradition and honor the knowledge of the past.

He donned various roles after college. He was hired as a loco pilot by the Konkon Railway. He left the position after five years because, in his own words, “I love to travel but not the same path always. “He became a broadcaster and content creator for All India Radio. Later in 2007, began a new chapter as a radio jockey at an FM radio station. Additionally, he wrote the early script for the comedy programme “Marimayam” on Mazhavil Manorama. . His current focus is writing, which has always been his greatest passion. He has published 17 books including 13 works of children’s literature. and has also penned the screenplays for three feature films and short films He has won National and State awards for his works .
He is married to Pratibha Soman and they have two children, Mithravindan and Devamithra.He currently makes his home in Kunattangadi, Thrissur.
